Tottenham may already have fielded a candidate to replace Igor Tudor after the caretaker manager left the club on Sunday. Tudor joined after Thomas Frank was sacked at the start of the season, but his tenure was nothing short of a disaster.
It all culminated in Spurs’ tough relegation battle with Nottingham Forest at the weekend, with the north London side suffering a shocking 3-0 defeat. With only seven games remaining in the season, the possibility of relegation to the Championship has certainly increased.
Had West Ham achieved a result against Aston Villa, Spurs could have finished in the bottom three, but thankfully their London rivals, the Europa League winners, also suffered a defeat. However, Tottenham remain just one point above the relegation zone, meaning the capital club will roll the dice again.
If this report is to be believed, there is a possibility that the next manager has already been decided and ready, and Adi Hitter is reported to be the most likely candidate. The Austrian was released by Monaco at the start of the season and has been unemployed since then.
Contact has reportedly already taken place between Spurs and Hütter in a bid to avoid a humiliating relegation from the top flight. This will be an eyebrow-raising appointment, given that Hütter has no Premier League experience, which was one of the criticisms leveled at Tudor before his arrival.
Former manager Ange Postecoglou has suggested Tottenham make a “circuit breaker” managerial change to avoid relegation. He told Australian broadcaster SEN 1116:
“It’s been two years and it hasn’t been an easy year, but we invested a lot in them. We won the European trophy in the second to last game, which was an unbelievable price.”
“The connections there will stay with us forever. It wasn’t easy to watch them struggle and it didn’t go the way we expected. They’re fighting like hell and being relegated is a big thing for any club, but for Tottenham it’s a pretty big deal.”
“They have a fight left to play and they have the quality to get out. They certainly need a circuit breaker.”
