Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah has posted on social media less than a week after confirming he will leave Anfield this summer.

Mohamed Salah will leave Liverpool at the end of the season after reaching an agreement

Mohamed Salah has posted a new Instagram post of himself admiring his trophy cabinet. The 33-year-old unexpectedly announced his departure from Liverpool at the end of the season via an emotional video earlier this week.

Despite criticism of his performances over the past 12 months, Salah’s latest social media upload serves as a stark reminder of what he has achieved at Anfield. The photo shows the Champions League trophy, which could be the Egyptian’s last appearance in that tournament for months to come.

Ahead of the 2026/27 season, there is a lot of speculation surrounding a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia. When Salah revealed he was close to leaving the club, his agent Ramy Abbas Issa insisted the forward had not yet decided on his next move.

A return to Italy has not been ruled out, with Salah having enjoyed great success at AS Roma before moving to Liverpool. One potential transfer destination that has been clearly ruled out is MLS. David Beckham’s franchise Inter Miami was the only American team reported to be interested in Salah, but the Liverpool Echo reports that this is now unlikely.

Still, Salah is scheduled to travel to the United States, Canada and Mexico this summer to captain Egypt at the World Cup. His country is in Group G alongside Belgium, Iran and New Zealand.

At this stage, Salah may wait until after the World Cup to decide on his future. His contract runs until the summer of 2027, but he and the club have reached an understanding that will allow him to leave Anfield for free this season.

The deal effectively gives Salah free agent status, allowing Liverpool to decide on his next move without having to negotiate a transfer fee with another club. Coach Arne Slott’s plans for replacing the Egyptian remain unclear.

Reds legend Steven Gerrard recently named West Ham captain and England international Jarrod Bowen as a possible candidate, but expressed concerns over whether he could step into Salah’s shoes. The Champions League winner said: “I really like Bowen.

“I think he’s a top player, but I don’t know if he’s at the level to replace Salah. Liverpool will probably look for more one-on-one merchants who can play on the outside.”

“Certainly this season, when they had that spell where they were very inconsistent, they were too predictable on the side.

“And the way this manager (Arne Slott) wants to play is to work together from side to side and create one-on-one relationships. They were without (Luis) Diaz a lot of times. I think we need to work on that side of the pitch.”

Bowen was frequently touted as a potential Anfield signing during Jurgen Klopp’s era. In the summer of 2021, Liverpool were reported to have considered a £20m offer for the striker, but that deal fell through and he remained at West Ham, where he has since cemented his status as a club legend.
