Manchester United are said to have been given the chance to sign Barcelona star Ferran Torres as speculation continues over Marcus Rashford’s future. United loaned Rashford to the La Liga side last summer in a deal that included the option to make the move permanent at the end of the season.
Rashford revealed his desire to leave Old Trafford last summer, with United set to sign the England international on loan with an option to buy to Barcelona.
With just a few months left until Rashford’s loan deal is completed, it looks like United could be given the chance to sign the Barcelona player this summer.
TEAMtalk has reported that Torres has been linked with a potential move from Barcelona to United this summer.
The report suggests Barcelona are looking to cash in ahead of the new summer transfer window, which could include allowing certain players to leave in order to fund the acquisition of new talent.
As a result, it has been suggested that Torres has been ‘offered’ to United as Barcelona look to secure Rashford’s further season at Camp Nou. Barcelona have an option to sign Rashford permanently for €30m (£26m), but various reports suggest the Spanish giants are exploring the possibility of keeping the United star on loan for a further season.
As a result, Barcelona have floated the possibility of United signing the 26-year-old Torres, with it being claimed that the Red Devils could be more receptive to extending Rashford’s loan if the opportunity arises.
United are reportedly ‘interested’ in Barcelona’s offer for Torres, but it remains to be seen what decision the player and the Red Devils will reach if such a deal goes ahead.
Torres has been in great form for Barcelona this season, scoring 16 goals in all competitions and helping the club reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League, while maintaining a four-point advantage over La Liga leaders Real Madrid.
Rashford has previously made no secret of his desire to remain at Barcelona beyond his current loan deal.
“I want to stay as long as possible (for the season). We’ll see,” Rashford told TNT Sports in October.
“I have to focus on doing my job and helping the team in any way I can.”
He added: “I’m learning a lot. It’s a new style of football, but it’s made me a better player. Honestly, it’s been a great experience. I’ve always been a big Barcelona fan and all the players my age have watched them play. It’s great football.”
