Despite only putting pen to paper last year on a contract extension that would keep him at Anfield until 2027, Salah recently revealed his intention to part ways with the club he has been at for nine years at the end of the season. As a result, it looks like a busy summer awaits on Merseyside as the Reds look to bring in a worthy successor for the 33-year-old. Klopp, the former Liverpool FC manager who is currently in charge of RB Leipzig’s world football, is said to be urging his former team to move quickly to sign Diomande.
The Ivorian has certainly turned heads, having scored 10 goals and provided seven assists in the Bundesliga alone this season. However, although his contract runs until 2030, Leipzig are in no hurry to part ways with the youngster and, as a result, could demand far more than his market value to allow him to leave the Red Bull Arena in the coming months.
Meanwhile, Klopp recently explained how Liverpool face an almost impossible task in replacing Salah, who has scored 255 goals since joining in 2017, with the German saying: “A player like this is irreplaceable. “That’s always the case. Someone will fill the void. How much time, how much space, yeah, how much time to give to the players over there in any given game is always on our mind.” What system does the admin play?
“But a particular player, Mo Salah? I don’t even know if there are others. There are other players on that wing who play with different strengths, different qualities, but it’s the numbers he produces. They are unparalleled from that position.”
Diomande is not the only star touted to step into Salah’s shoes this summer, with West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen and Bayern Munich’s Michael Oliseh also on the list. As for Salah himself, his next destination is similarly subject to speculation.
The winger has recently attracted a lot of attention from the Saudi Professional League, despite remaining at Liverpool. Al Nasr, Al Ittihad and Al Qadosia are among the clubs rumored to be interested in signing Salah in recent weeks. There are also reports of interest from MLS, with clubs such as Inter Miami and LA Galaxy also mentioned as possible destinations.
With the likes of Roma, Barcelona, PSG, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce linked with Salah, it remains possible that the Anfield icon will remain in Europe.
