Manchester United may be in the middle of a long break from football, but that hasn’t stopped the constant stream of headlines. Due to the fixture schedule, Michael Carrick’s side will not play again until April 13, a full 24 days after their last game at Bournemouth.
The 2-2 draw on the south coast and results elsewhere ensured United remain third in the Premier League. They remain just one point behind fourth-placed Aston Villa, but have a six-point buffer over fifth-placed Liverpool and a seven-point advantage over Chelsea.
Leeds travel to Old Trafford after the international break, with United’s next game traveling to Stamford Bridge, an opportunity to significantly boost their top-four ambitions. But they will want their players to return safely from the international break.
During the current hiatus in club football, several off-the-pitch issues have made headlines, from transfer speculation to other news. Here are the latest updates for Express Sport:
Looney’s season ends
“It’s a shame to miss the rest of the season. I’ll be back stronger next preseason,” the player wrote on his Instagram Stories.
Rooney, the son of former United legend Wayne, made his debut at Old Trafford in the FA Youth Cup earlier this season. The youngster has made six appearances in the Under-18 League, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
Despite primarily playing in midfield during his academy days, Lewis-Skelly excelled as a left-back and earned an England cap last season. He played 23 league games for Arsenal’s first team last season, many of them as starters, but has only played 312 minutes in all competitions this season.
“Every season is different,” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said of the youngster earlier this month. “He’s had some really good moments this season. There’s been times where he hasn’t played as much.”
United are looking for a new left-back in the summer and Lewis-Skelly’s youth and adaptability will undoubtedly be seen as an advantage. They acquired teenage full-back Diego León from Cerro Porteno in 2025, but the Paraguayan has barely featured in the Under-21 team this year.
