And the extent of the Egyptian’s success at Anfield was not lost on his former head coach.
“I’m already in (his) position. Already looking back, I really can’t believe how this was possible.”
“The goals he scored, the consistency he showed, the desire and enthusiasm to score got bigger and bigger and bigger.”

If there was any doubt at the beginning of his Liverpool career that Salah had the potential to become the ‘greatest player of all time’, those doubts were quickly dispelled by the end of his record-breaking debut season.
The Egyptian icon has won the Premier League Golden Boot award a total of four times, equaling the highest level achieved by Thierry Henry in 2006, and was named PFA Players’ Player of the Year a record three times.
“If you look at the bigger picture, this is a ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous, unparalleled number,” Klopp added.
“Maybe in 10 years we’ll be able to talk about it and maybe (Ugo) Ekitike or someone else will have it, but I think it’s going to be difficult. It’s going to be really difficult.
“And there is no doubt that one of the best players of all time will leave the club in the summer. And let’s see where he turns up next.”

And Klopp remembers confirming that Salah’s first move to Anfield was far from certain, with then-Bayer Leverkusen prospect Julian Brandt on the Reds’ shortlist.
“There’s always talk of wanting to sign, but we don’t know exactly if it’s Julian Brandt or something like that. If we’re looking for a winger, we’re in a situation where if we’re lucky we can talk to seven or eight people,” he said.
“And yes, we spoke to Julian Brandt, but we also spoke to Mo Salah. It’s not like he (Brandt) didn’t want it, so we got him (Salah) no matter what people think. We don’t really care.”
“But it was that moment. We were 100 percent sure he was the one. We were probably more sure of him than we were at that moment.”
Speaking about Salah’s role, which Klopp described as one of the “best front three in world football” alongside Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, the German said the forward’s desire to score cannot be trained.

“He was part of the best front three in world football for a long time and was the player with the most numbers. So that’s saying something. It really says something,” Klopp concluded.
“It’s not easy to be a little bit better than the other two. They all had their own unique skills, but it was Mo who grabbed the last moment. He wanted it more than anyone else.”
“Mo was always a guy with a goal in mind. You can’t train that or learn that. It’s in him and he has it. He’ll carry it with him until the last day of his life.”
