Mohamed Salah will end his glittering career at Liverpool at the end of the season, behind an announcement video shared on Tuesday.
Steven Gerrard believes the only way for Liverpool to replace Mohamed Salah is to sign one of the world’s best wingers. Salah announced on Tuesday night that he would be leaving the club at the end of the season, marking the end of his time at Liverpool.
The 33-year-old leaves on a free transfer following negotiations with Anfield bosses, ending a nine-year stay on trophy-laden Merseyside. Discussions have already begun about who will replace the Egyptian international, but Gerrard believes Salah will not be able to be replaced unless his former club signs a star player with a “high box office” figure.
“If you don’t buy a player who does well at the box office, you won’t be able to replace him,” he told TNT Sports. “To replace Mo Salah, they have to be a top-end, top-three, top-four winger in the world, because that’s what Mo did.”
Bayern Munich’s Michael Oliseh has already been linked with a move to Anfield, and Owen Hargreaves could be the box-office player the Reds are looking for. He said: “If it’s Liverpool, we have to prepare.
“It was a lot of trial and error. For me, it’s Olise, such a talented player. If you don’t ask, you won’t know. And that front free is great, so I don’t want to see him leave Bayern.

“But if you’re talking about[Olise]on the right side of Liverpool, it’s a box office issue.”
Salah confirmed his departure in a video on his social channels, saying: “Hello everyone. Unfortunately this day has come. This is the first part of my farewell. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of this season.”
“First of all, I would like to say that I never imagined that this club, this city and these people would become a part of my life.
“Liverpool is more than just a football club, it’s a passion, a history and a spirit. Words cannot explain it to anyone who is not part of this club. We have celebrated victories, won the most important trophies and fought together through the most difficult times of our lives.
“I would like to thank everyone who has been part of this club throughout my time here, especially my teammates past and present.
“And to my fans, I have no words. The support you showed me during the best times of my career, and stood by me during the most difficult times. That’s something I’ll never forget and something I’ll always carry with me.”
“Leaving is never easy. You guys have given me the time of my life and I will always be one of you. This club will always be my home for me and for my family. Thank you for everything. Because of you I will never walk alone.”
