Manchester United could capitalize on Barcelona’s interest in Marcus Rashford by signing him for a fraction of that amount for £78m. Rashford has spent this season on loan at Camp Nou, where he has shined since leaving Old Trafford in the summer. Barcelona are reportedly keen to sign him on a permanent transfer before the start of the 2026/27 season.
Rashford’s contract clause allows the Catalan giants to sign him for around £26m at the end of the season. Barcelona are trying to negotiate a lower transfer fee, but United remain adamant that they must pay the full buyout clause. However, if there is another deal, the Red Devils could emerge as the big winners.
United are thought to be considering a potential move for Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde. Club leaders are reportedly considering signing at least one central midfielder as well as a left-sided player in the summer.
According to Mundo Deportivo, talks between the two clubs have already begun and United have contacted Balde to inquire about his situation.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Barcelona were willing to consider an offer of around £78 million. However, United could try to lower their asking price by including Rashford in a part-exchange deal that would release Balde in another way.
However, they are not the only ones in the competition. The report adds that Manchester City and Aston Villa are also pursuing Balde ahead of the summer season.
United’s hopes of negotiating a cheaper deal for Rashford could be dashed if either team is willing to pay the £78m asking price immediately.
It is also said that Balde has no intention of changing clubs as is, which could make things even more difficult for the Red Devils.
The young defender came through Barcelona’s youth ranks and has already made 160 first-team appearances for the La Liga champions.
He has been the team’s first choice left-back this season, starting almost every game he is available to play. On average, he manages 1.7 tackles, 3.7 ball recoveries and 3.9 successful duels per game.
Balde usually plays on the left side of a back four, but he has also been tested as a winger in training. His versatility, consistency and potential for improvement will make him a solid addition to United ahead of next season.
However, it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils will be successful in acquiring his signature. They will boost their hopes of completing a summer transfer by finishing in the top five of the Premier League and qualifying for the Champions League.
