Alejandro Garnacho has pleaded guilty to speeding after the Chelsea player was caught exceeding the 16mph limit in his final days as a Manchester United player
Chelsea’s Alejandro Garnacho has been found guilty of speeding just days before leaving Manchester United. The Argentine was spotted leaving his former club’s training ground at high speed.
The 21-year-old, who joined the Blues for £40million, was caught driving an Audi RS3 at 50mph in a 40mph zone, resulting in a speed camera being activated.
The incident occurred on August 26, and Garnacho admitted to speeding through his attorney. At Liverpool Magistrates’ Court he apologized and admitted he was “embarrassed” by it. Judge Jane Haynes fined him £660 and ordered him to pay £120 costs and a £264 victim surcharge. He also scored three points.
The day of the speeding incident was just four days before he quit the Manchester club. It was expected that he would leave the club due to the displeasure of then-head coach Ruben Amorim.
Lawyers at JMW Solicitors wrote: “Mr Garnacho has admitted committing the offense of exceeding the speed limit and has admitted his guilt. Mr Garnacho has explained that this was an oversight on his part and has apologized for the offense. Our client is embarrassed to be in this position now and has apologized to the court for the speeding offense.”

Garnacho was also charged with failing to respond to a letter from Greater Manchester Police in October last year asking him to identify the driver of the car, but the document was withdrawn after his guilty plea. The Chelsea star was found guilty and sentenced last week at a closed-door hearing under the Single Judiciary Procedure.
Since joining Chelsea, the Argentine has made 36 appearances and scored seven goals. He has had to assume a role in the squad at a club with huge attacking depth, which means he is not guaranteed a starting spot. He appeared in 21 games as a starter and the rest came off the bench.

Garnacho produced arguably his best performance in a Chelsea shirt in the recent rout of Aston Villa, and manager Liam Rosenior was confident he was back to his best form ahead of a crucial period of the season.
“He feels like he’s in a good spot. Yale is in a great spot,” he said earlier this month. “Considering he played the full 90 minutes on Wednesday, his goals and his energy level over the 120 minutes were great. He’s in a really good spot and it’s really, really good to see how he’s doing at this really important stage of the season.”
