Mohamed Salah has established himself as one of the best players in Liverpool and Premier League history and English football will miss the Egyptian superstar
Without Mo Salah, the Premier League would be an even poorer place.
Salah enjoyed a record-breaking nine years at Liverpool and will go down as one of the greatest players of all time. English football has been lucky to have great goals, great moments and some very talented, very entertaining and great players.
He has thrilled Anfield with his skill, talent and incredible ability, delivering iconic moments and numerous trophies. Liverpool fans ran down the wing in chants of joy as the Egyptian king burst into the penalty area, dancing past countless full-backs.
And his departure will also raise a very obvious and difficult question: Who is the face of the Premier League now?

Salah, 33, has been that player throughout his time at Anfield. He’s a global superstar, the biggest name, the biggest attraction, and arguably the biggest talent.
Previous players have included Cristiano Ronaldo, Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Eric Cantona, Harry Kane, Steven Gerrard, David Beckham, Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero.
We now have Erling Haaland, the Premier League’s marquee player, and the Manchester City star is set to break goalscoring records for as long as he remains in English football. But who else could there be? England’s two best players, Kane and Jude Bellingham, are playing overseas. Lionel Messi will never come to England and Ronaldo is destined to retire in Saudi Arabia.
It is a great shame, but also a harsh reality, that if Salah leaves, the Premier League will be short of genuine stardust. Rather than coming to English football, they flock to Real Madrid and Barcelona in La Liga. There is an outflow of human resources.
With the departure of the greatest player of all time, it is a real concern that the Premier League is losing world-class talent.
Salah has always been able to bring fans out of their seats with his incredible control, skill and balance. Of all these great players, Salah was arguably the best dribbler. Hazard cornered him, but Salah was the best in my opinion.
That’s what makes him stand out. His record of 255 goals in 435 appearances is astounding. There are many outstanding goals, but he mostly has a personal showreel of his great goal against Manchester City. And that definitely speaks to Salah scoring in the big moments. There is always a debate about which players will play in the big games. Well, it’s impossible to pin that blame on Salah.
Liverpool were City’s closest challengers for much of Josep Guardiola’s reign, and it was Salah who delivered the big goals, big moments and perfect wins.
His biggest goal was arguably the 2-2 draw against City in October 2021, when Salah twisted and dribbled past a defender and fired a shot past Ederson at his near post.
That was a worthy goal of the season. He has won the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year award three times, equaling the Arsenal legend for the most.
His latest was the 2024-25 season, when he was the best player ever and his talent led Liverpool to another title, but then there were almighty cries to give him another contract.
His story of rising from poverty in Egypt is amazing. He has come a long way since signing his first professional contract at Cairo’s Al Mokawloun at the age of 13, earning a monthly salary of 125 Egyptian pounds (3.32 pounds).
He is now a global megastar. It is worshiped all over the world, especially in Africa and the Middle East. There is no doubt that he will be talked about as the greatest player in African history.
Commercial partnerships with Adidas and PepsiCo, as well as major contracts, have made him a huge success both on and off the pitch.
It would have been impossible for Liverpool to say goodbye last summer after another great season. They were under pressure to keep him.
Indeed, given this development, Arne Slott’s decision to drop him, Salah’s decline and the public reputation following his outburst at Leeds, it begs the question whether we should have said goodbye to Salah last summer.
Always run at the top. That’s my dream. Salah has seen his best days, but his achievements and success at Liverpool mean he has earned the right to part ways. And he will farewell as one of the all-time greats.
