Following the announcement of Mohamed Salah’s departure, Liverpool have reportedly made a decision on the departure of Arne Slott. The Egyptian player has announced his intention to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, despite still having one year left on his contract.
Salah joined Liverpool from Roma in 2017 and won everything there was to win during his nine-year spell, establishing himself as one of the Merseysiders’ best ever players. His departure marks the end of an era for the 20-time Premier League champions, who are said to be fully committed to filling the current manager’s slot.
The Independent reports that Reds leaders have no plans to sack Slott at this time, nor are they currently considering a replacement manager. The Dutchman won the league title in his first year in charge, but has faced harsh criticism after disappointing results this season.
The report claims that Liverpool’s bigwigs are ready to back Slot as they believe several mitigating factors have contributed to their underwhelming campaign. The tragic death of Diogo Jota in the summer came at a time when Liverpool were undergoing a rebuilding process with a number of new faces in the dressing room.
There was a period in the early part of the season where the slot seemed to be in flux, but results have been somewhat consistent and Liverpool are in a good position to qualify for next season’s Champions League. They currently sit fifth in the Premier League table, which will almost certainly be enough to qualify them for the league phase of the 2026/27 season.
Liverpool will start without Salah in their squad when next season begins, with the 33-year-old having agreed an early end to his contract at the end of this season. Salah said in a post on social media: “Hello everyone. Unfortunately this day has come. This is the first part of my farewell. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.”
“The first thing I wanted to say is that I never imagined that this club, this city and these people would be part of my life. Liverpool is more than just a football club, it’s a passion, a history and a spirit. I can’t explain those words to anyone who isn’t a member of this club.”
“We celebrated victories, won the most important trophies and fought through the most difficult times of our lives together. I would like to thank everyone who has been part of this club throughout my time here, especially my teammates past and present.”
“And to all my fans: I have no words for the support you have shown me during the best times of my career, and for the support you have shown me during the most difficult times.
