Enzo Fernandes continues to deny rumors that he is in transfer talks with the likes of Real Madrid, but has also refused to commit to Chelsea beyond this summer.
Chelsea star Enzo Fernandes has insisted he has not held any talks with Real Madrid or rival clubs, but has reiterated that he will decide on his future after this summer’s World Cup.
The Blues midfielder has been at the club since shining at the last World Cup, where he helped Argentina win the trophy and was named the tournament’s best young player. So Chelsea spent £106 million to sign him from Benfica a month later.
Since then, he has become a mainstay in the center of the pitch, forming a strong partnership with Moises Caicedo. He has scored a career-best number of goals this season, but Chelsea have suffered some setbacks recently and could still miss out on Champions League qualification.
They have endured harsh criticism following last weekend’s defeat to Everton, just days after an 8-2 defeat at PSG in Round 16.
After Chelsea’s defeat to the French side, Fernandes refused to stay at the club next year, a sentiment he reiterated while away from his home country. He told ESPN Argentina: “There are no negotiations. Right now I’m focused on Chelsea, but we’ll see after the World Cup.”

A move to Real has long been a big attraction for South American players. Los Blancos currently have several Brazilian stars on their roster, which could appeal to Fernandes. Another partner club, PSG, will offer the guarantee of competing for trophies every year.
Chelsea’s project involves signing young players with the aim of blossoming in west London. Losing Fernandes before he was in his prime would be a huge setback, but Liam Rosenior was adamant the 25-year-old was committed to the cause and any comments about his future were likely to be lost in translation.
He said recently: “I had a long talk with Enzo this morning before training. We talked not only about his comments, but also about his feelings and how we can improve as a team. He’s one of the captains of the club. What I’m saying is that he made it really clear to me how happy he is with this club, how much he wants to win and how passionate he is about our success.”
“And he also said that what he said could be misunderstood, in translation and in emotion. For me, he’s committed to this group and he’s committed to winning with this football club.”
