Salah said: “Unfortunately this day has come. This is the first part of our farewell.” “I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of this season.” He signed a new two-year contract just 10 months ago, but has decided to leave Anfield after his weakest season in terms of results since joining from Roma in 2017.
Salah added: “I never imagined that this club, this city and these people would become part of my life. Liverpool is more than just a football club. It’s passion, it’s history, it’s spirit.
“Words cannot explain it to those who are not part of this club. We celebrated victories. We won the most important trophies and fought together through the most difficult times of our lives.”
Rumors are already circulating as to where Salah will play next season, although he has been heavily linked with the Saudi Professional League in recent years.
“We don’t know where Mohamed will play next season, which also means that no one knows,” said Ramy Abbas, who represented Salah throughout his Liverpool career.
Uncertainty in the Middle East could be a factor when Salah considers his options for next season, despite significant interest from the Saudi Arabian league.
Salah spoke emotionally of his iconic time on Merseyside, saying: “We celebrated victories, we won the most important trophies and we fought together through the most difficult times of our lives.”
“I would like to thank everyone who has been part of this club throughout my time here, especially my team-mates past and present. And to the fans, there are not enough words. The support you showed me during the best times of my career, and you stood by me during the most difficult times. That is something I will never forget and something I will always carry with me.”
“Leaving is never easy. You gave me the time of my life. I will always be a part of you. This club will always be my home, for me and my family.”
“Thank you as always. Thanks to all of you, I can never walk alone.”
