Mohamed Salah has announced that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the 2025/26 season.

The 33-year-old announced that he is bringing an end to nine years at Anfield with X, calling it “the best time of my career”.

Salah said: “Unfortunately this day has come. This is the first part of our farewell.” “I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of this season. First of all, I would like to say that I never imagined that this club, this city and these people would become a part of my life.

“Liverpool, it’s more than just a football club. It’s passion. It’s history. It’s spirit. Words can’t explain it to anyone who isn’t part of this club. We celebrated victories, we won the most important trophies, we fought together through the most difficult times of our lives.”

Salah has scored 255 goals in 435 games in all competitions for Liverpool, placing him third on the club’s all-time goalscoring list behind Ian Rush (346) and Roger Hunt (285).

Salah joined Liverpool from Roma in 2017 and played a key role in re-establishing the club as one of Europe’s best.

Under Jurgen Klopp, Salah and Liverpool won one Premier League title, the UEFA Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup and two League Cups. Salah won his second league title in 2025 under manager Arne Slott.

Salah said: “I would like to thank everyone who has been part of this club throughout my time here, especially my teammates past and present.”

“And to all my fans, I have no words for the support you showed me during the best times of my career and for standing by me during the most difficult times. That is something I will never forget and will always carry with me.”

“Mohamed Salah will end his distinguished career at Liverpool Football Club at the end of the 2025-26 season,” Liverpool said in a statement to X.

“The time to fully celebrate his achievements and accomplishments will be later this year when he bids farewell to Anfield.”

The club added: “Out of respect and gratitude to our supporters, Salah has expressed his wish to make this announcement to his supporters at the earliest opportunity to provide transparency about his future.”

Salah has played in 22 Premier League games this season, scoring five goals and providing six assists, with 10 goals and nine assists in all competitions.

Salah said: “It’s never easy to leave. You gave me the best time of my life and I will always be one of you.”

“For me and for my family, this club will always be my home. Thank you for everything. Thanks to you all, I will never walk alone.”
