Michael Carrick has led Manchester United to seven wins in 10 games since replacing Ruben Amorim in January, but his long-term future remains to be seen.

Manchester United bosses are reportedly yet to have formal talks with any candidate for the permanent managerial job, which clearly increases the chances of Michael Carrick taking over as manager.

Carrick has won seven, drawn two and lost one of the 10 games he has played since being appointed as Ruben Amorim’s replacement until the end of the season. United sit third in the Premier League and are in a good position to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

The former midfielder made a strong case for taking the job, stabilizing the club after the bitter final months of the Amorim era. United Director of Football Jason Wilcox and CEO Omar Berada are the two power brokers tasked with appointing the next manager.

They are under pressure to find the right person after the costly Amorim affair and are taking time to evaluate their options. United have been linked with signings for Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner, former Marseille player Roberto de Zerbi and former England manager Gareth Southgate.

However, Sky Sports claim United bosses are yet to hold talks with any candidates, despite being free to do so. They are understood to be relaxed about the situation and intend to wait until the end of the season before proceeding with a decision.

Carrick’s main task was to secure Champions League football and he did a great job in that aspect, inspiring his players to take the team from 6th to 3rd place in the Premier League. He has scored 23 of the 30 points in league play and has seven games left on the schedule. A decision is expected to be made later this summer.

Sky Sports point out that Thomas Tuchel signing a new contract with England and Carlo Ancelotti planning a similar deal with Brazil worked in Carrick’s favor. The 44-year-old has remained focused on the job, playing straight with the bat whenever asked about a permanent role.

Let us know what you think. Should Michael Carrick take the job permanently? Comment below.

“I’m in this position now and I’m doing the best I can and obviously I love it,” he said ahead of Friday’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth. “But what happens is what happens. Everything is very calm. I can definitely enjoy the win (against Aston Villa) and I’m looking forward to Friday night. But other than that, that’s all I’m really thinking about.”

Wayne Rooney is among the critics calling for Mr Carrick to be given the job. “100 per cent he should[get the job],” he told BBC Radio 5 Live recently. “I knew this was going to happen with Michael Carrick. I know him very well, I know his character and his personality.

“We needed a calm head, but we needed someone who knew the field. The players needed love and he gave it. We’ve seen the players play better, they’re more united as a team and we look like a very strong team. Why would we change?”
