A 20-year-old goalkeeper was shot dead in Sweden, and his father has paid tribute in a heartbreaking statement. Hugo Moshagen, an aspiring soccer player, plays for Sweden’s fourth-division team BK Forward and dreams of success in soccer.
His club and loved ones are currently mourning after he was murdered in Orebro. Police were called to the incident in a residential area in the city’s west just before midnight on Saturday. The young player was then taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The Sun reports that Moshagen has no known gang ties and that his parents are devastated by the shooting. The keeper was the eldest of three children and is said to have liked going to church.
Later, his father, Joachim Gunnarsson, responded to the news in an interview with the Swedish newspaper Expressen. “His big dream was to be a professional soccer player. He devoted all his time to that and this is going to be his year.”
“It’s an emptiness. One minute you’re really angry and the next minute you’re grieving over losing one of your children in a completely unnecessary way.
“In a completely pointless way. He saw everyone, talked to everyone and wanted to help in any way he could.”
Moshagen’s mother Marie added: “We feel he is with God. We know he is doing well there. He was responsible. He did everything for his brother. He was loved by many.”
According to team captain Joseph Ibrahim, he was also a popular figure in the BK forward locker room. He said: “We will be stronger and united. We will be there for each other and spread the love, for Hugo and his family.”
