ITV was forced to apologize after it was hit with a problem broadcasting this season’s Carabao Cup final between Arsenal and Manchester City. There was no audio for the live broadcast from Wembley Stadium.
And viewers on social media platform X are quick to voice their displeasure. “ITV dared viewers to read the Carabao Cup final,” said one person.
“Is anyone else silently watching the Carabao Cup final on ITV? Or is it just me?” said another. Elsewhere, a viewer asked: “Why is there no sound at the ITV Carabao Cup final? Didn’t they notice that? Hello.”
The problem was later fixed at around 4.10pm, just 20 minutes before kick-off, with ITV apologizing by displaying a message at the bottom of viewers’ screens that read: “We apologize for the audio interruption.”
The top two teams in the Premier League will meet for the first time in the League Cup final. Arsenal are chasing their first silver medal since lifting the FA Cup in 2020, with Mikel Arteta’s side also aiming for an unprecedented quadruple.
The Gunners are nine points behind second-placed City in the league and will face Southampton in the FA Cup fourth round and Sporting CP in the Champions League quarter-finals.
And Arsenal were given a boost before kick-off of the Carabao Cup final after City manager Josep Guardiola confirmed that key centre-back Ruben Dias would be sidelined through injury.
“At halftime on Tuesday Ruben (Diaz) felt something. He couldn’t play and he’s not ready yet,” he said.
“It’s not a big problem, but he’s not ready and I have no doubts about Nathan. He has experience and incredible composure.
“No matter what happens, I’ve always been the second keeper in cup games and James is the top keeper. He’s a young, top-class keeper and I have faith in him no matter what happens.”
