Manager Igor Tudor will not hold a press conference following Tottenham’s defeat to Nottingham Forest after being informed of the loss of a member of his immediate family. His assistant coach Bruno Sartor took responsibility following the tragic news.
Sartor pointed out that it is not the right time for Croats to speak. “I’m filling in because of personal issues, family issues and it’s not the right time for him to talk,” the former Brighton defender told Sky Sports after Spurs’ 3-0 defeat at home.
After a bright start, Tottenham found themselves under attack from manager Vitor Pereira. Igor Jesus scored just before half-time as Morgan Gibbs-White and Taiwo Awoniyi secured a vital victory in the relegation battle.
“Every mistake right now is against us, every little detail is against us and it affects the players as well,” Salter continued. “You can see how hard they are fighting. We all know we are in a difficult situation.
“We were the better team in the first half so we need to keep going. We were down 1-0 so we wanted to be a little more aggressive with the players coming back from injury.” It didn’t go to plan, but that was our intention.
“It’s hurtful, it’s painful, it’s really painful for us, but the fans today were amazing from before the game until the end of the game. We have to keep going because we care about Spurs, we’re a family and we want to get out of this situation. I’m 100% confident we’ll get through this situation.”
Forest’s victory moves Tottenham into 16th place. The Lilywhites remain one point clear of the relegation zone after West Ham’s loss to Aston Villa.
Goals from John McGinn and Ollie Watkins at Villa Park ensured Unai Emery’s side continued their progress in the Champions League, while denying the Irons any chance of breaking away from the bottom three.
There are just three weeks left until Tottenham play in the Premier League and resume their bid to remain in the division. Tudor’s position has long been under scrutiny, with international breaks often proving to be a timely opportunity to change managers.
The caretaker manager arrived in north London last month but has won just one game since taking over. Tottenham had defeated Atletico Madrid 3-0 in the Champions League in their previous match, but were eliminated from the competition after a heavy defeat in the first leg.
