Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has been linked with a move to Manchester United this summer and spoke about his future after Friday night’s draw with the Red Devils.
Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has vowed he will not be distracted by his relationship with former club Athletic Bilbao. The Spanish team is looking for a new manager, with current coach Ernesto Valverde announcing that he will be retiring at the end of this season.
Iraola, 43, is an iconic figure in the Basques side, having played 510 games for the club during his playing days. His contract expires at the end of the season, which could make a move easier.
But Iraora insists she is not undermining the work she is doing on the south coast by talking about her future.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Bournemouth manager said: “I support this club so as a supporter I will probably be affected.
“Obviously, I’ve been playing there for years and it was a surprise for me too. I have a lot of friends, and your group sees the news and they send you messages.

“And I can only speak so well. My biggest reference in football is Ernesto. So this is a decision he made, but it doesn’t affect me except on the supporters’ side.”
Iraola has since confirmed that he has not been approached by anyone at Bilbao, suggesting that negotiations will continue to extend his stay with the Cherries.
He added: “I think there are situations, as I’ve said many times, that we have to discuss internally at the club, but it’s not about other clubs, it’s about Bournemouth and these are the only things we’re discussing.”
Iraola is rumored to have links with his former team, and it is rumored that United could make a potential suitor for him in the future. Jamie Redknapp has now given the green light to move to Old Trafford.
He told Sky Sports: “I’ve absolutely said it before, he can definitely do it. I love the way Bournemouth play. They play with a lot of energy and a good tempo. I think that’s what Manchester United want.”
“If he’s one of the managers they were looking for then he could definitely get the job. There will be other jobs available in the summer and obviously Tottenham could get that job.”
“There will be plenty of clubs for him. It’s just a matter of what’s right for him. He’s done a great job at Bournemouth and I hope he stays because I love the club, but I also know there are opportunities there.”
Meanwhile, Andy Cole also believes Iraola would be a good candidate for his former team. He said: “Yes, why not? He’s a good manager. In other words, he’s not going to struggle to find options. To put Bournemouth in a good position, we need to bring in good players and play really good football.”
“That’s a big bonus. I’ve watched them a lot this season and they’re a good team. For such a small club to finish mid-table again is a testament to his talent.”
