Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has revealed on social media that he is expected to be out for “some time” with a new injury. The Brazil international missed Liverpool’s first leg against Galatasaray but returned in time to play against Tottenham at the weekend and played in Wednesday’s return leg at Anfield.
However, Alisson, who has struggled with injury problems throughout his Liverpool career, will at least miss the Reds’ visit to Brighton at the weekend. Giorgi Mamadashvili is expected to score in his place and Alisson updated Liverpool fans via social media.
Posting on Instagram, the shot-stopper said, “Unfortunately, I will be out of action for a while. I’m already working hard to come back stronger! Thank you for your support.”
But now comes a nightmare time for Slott and Liverpool as they aim to qualify for next year’s Champions League. The six-time European champions sit in fifth place, just one point ahead of rivals Chelsea, ahead of this weekend’s games.
Alisson is just one of Slott’s injury problems, with Mohamed Salah also sidelined for the foreseeable future. Salah scored his 50th Champions League goal in midweek, but Slott revealed the legendary winger is injured and will miss the upcoming game against Egypt.
Speaking ahead of the game against Brighton, Slott said: “It’s unusual[for him to be injured]. I think you’re expecting a result so he’s out tomorrow. It’s good news for Liverpool, because we’re going into the international break, but it’s bad news for Egypt. He won’t be able to go there.”
“I hope that with what Mo has shown so far, he can recover faster than other players. He takes great care of his body, so history has shown that he will be able to come back faster than other players. There are only two weeks left until we go again.”
Meanwhile, Joe Gomez is also suffering from a knock, Slott added. “Joe wasn’t available. We tried to postpone it (the Gala game) as long as possible. I told him that maybe a miracle could happen and if we needed extra time, he could be available tomorrow, maybe he could, but he won’t start.”
Alexander Isak remains sidelined but is expected to return at some point in April and could feature in Liverpool’s Champions League quarter-finals. Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni are likely to remain sidelined for the rest of the season.
