Noah Lang suffers thumb injury against Liverpool, Galatasaray plan to negotiate with UEFA
Galatasaray have threatened to take legal action against UEFA following Noah Lang’s serious injury and have already filed a complaint. The winger suffered a horrific injury that resulted in his thumb being amputated in the Champions League defeat to Liverpool, and the Turkish club are considering legal action to seek compensation.
“We lodged a complaint with UEFA representatives after the match. They also conducted an investigation. UEFA will assess the matter,” Galatasaray general secretary Elai Yazgan said in a comment via HTSpor.
“We are in talks with a lawyer. We will file a compensation lawsuit with UEFA. We will ask them to resolve the damage caused in terms of wages.” Liverpool’s official representatives were also seen inspecting the advertising warehouse where the injury occurred.
Liverpool declined to comment as the investigation is ongoing, but the club wishes him a full and speedy recovery. UEFA has also been contacted for comment.

Mr Lang had to be put on oxygen and taken away on a stretcher, but was rushed to hospital immediately after his injuries and required extensive treatment, which was later confirmed to be a success. “The surgery went well. Thank you for all the messages (red heart emoji),” he said on Instagram. He captioned his first post: “This is what happens.”
The incident occurred in the final stages when Lang put out his arm to stop himself from falling at some speed, but his thumb got stuck between the hoarding and the barrier.
Victor Osimhen was also injured in the match, and Galatasaray announced that both players went to hospital.
The club released a statement regarding both players, saying: “During the first half of the away match against Liverpool in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16, our player Victor Osimhen suffered a blow to the arm and finished the first half, but half-time tests revealed that he was unable to play in the second half due to the risk of breaking his arm.”
“After the match, tests at the hospital under the supervision of the medical team revealed a fracture in the player’s right forearm, which was placed in a cast. Following further tests, a decision on surgery will be made in the coming days.”
“Later in the same match, our injured player Noah Lang sustained a serious injury to his right thumb and will undergo surgery in the next few hours in Liverpool with the participation of our medical team.”
Liverpool were leading 4-0 at the time of Lang’s injury and a ferocious attacking performance from Arne Slott’s side ensured they avoided a disappointing first-leg defeat.
The Premier League champions will face holders Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals, looking to avenge last season’s defeat at the hands of the Parisians.
If Liverpool advance, they will face either Real Madrid or Barcelona, with Arsenal, Sporting CP, Atlético Madrid and Barcelona the remaining teams on the other side of the bracket.
