Dominik Szoboszlai shined once again as Liverpool booked their place in the Champions League quarter-finals with victory over Turkey’s Galatasaray at Anfield.
Steven Gerrard has hinted that Dominik Szoboszlai would one day become Liverpool’s captain if he remains at the club. The Hungarian midfielder has been brilliant at Anfield this season.
He scored his 12th goal of the season in the Champions League against Turkish side Galatasaray on Wednesday night. Szoboszlai, 25, also had eight assists.
The former RB Leipzig star has just over two years left on his current contract on Merseyside. However, Gerrard told him that if he extended his stay, he would receive the captain’s armband from Virgil van Dijk.
“I hope he stays longer, I think Liverpool have a future captain,” Liverpool icon Gerrard told TNT Sport.

Szoboszlai also spoke after Liverpool’s win over Galatasaray, underscoring his determination to help the Reds achieve their goals.
He said, “To be honest, I don’t really care when I score or how I score. I just want to score and help the team.”
“I just want to do everything I can to help the team be successful. If that happens in a game like this, I’m really happy, but I’d be really happy if we could get a point on Saturday.”
Gerrard then seemed to want to know more about Szoboszlai’s eye-catching strike, asking: “Can we just talk about the goal? It clearly looked like it was planned on the training pitch. Mac Allister obviously pulled the ball back. Was it for his right foot? How quickly did he have to change his mind and adjust?”
Szoboszlai then replied, “To be honest, that was true. I just look at my direction and how I’m going to the ball. The ball was straight, so I have to react to it, because I was very close to the last line of defenders. But yes, it seems to me that it’s not just my right foot.”
Liverpool return to action this weekend with a trip to Brighton as they aim to close the gap on the top four. Liverpool currently sit in fifth place, two points behind Chelsea.
The Reds have also revealed their Champions League quarter-final opponents, with reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain set to be in attendance.
