Noah Lang was forced to leave Galatasaray’s Champions League match against Liverpool after sustaining what appeared to be a serious hand injury. The Dutch winger was a constant threat for the Reds even before the incident and there was stunned silence at Anfield as he received medical treatment on the pitch.
The 26-year-old collided with a pitchside billboard and collapsed to the floor in pain before being immediately taken to hospital for further treatment.
Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk expressed deep concern at the post-match press conference, admitting that the injury “doesn’t look good”. Lang’s teammates knew his absence would be a huge loss and were clearly in distress as he was helped off the field.
Before his departure, Lang’s direct running and creativity were causing problems for Liverpool’s defense. His sending off significantly blunted Galatasaray’s counter-attacking threat and the match was stopped just before the final whistle.
“He’s going to the hospital. He has a serious problem with his finger. They took him to the hospital. If there’s an operation, it’ll be done here,” the head coach said.
The injury is also a blow to the Dutch national team, as Lang was hoping to play a role in the upcoming matches.
