Barcelona re-selected Joan Laporta last week and are expected to hand Hansi Flick a new contract at the Camp Nou, with Marcus Rashford aiming for a permanent move to Spain.
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is set to sign a new contract just days after the club’s presidential election, which could have implications for Marcus Rashford and his future at the Camp Nou.
Joan Laporta will continue as club president following Sunday’s victory. One of his first moves was to confirm that the Barcelona manager will remain in the job until 2028, with a new contract set to be signed.
In his debut season, Flick oversaw La Liga and Copa del Rey wins, as well as a place in the last four of the Champions League. This year, he helped Barcelona lead the league and Rashford helped spearhead Spain’s bid to retain the title.
The Manchester United loanee has been snapped up by manager Flick and his decision to stay has likely increased the chances of the Englishman joining on a permanent deal. Barcelona could sign him for £26 million this summer, a relatively modest fee if they can bring the player back to the top level.
Rashford himself wants to remain in Spain and there have been no calls from Manchester to bring him back to Old Trafford following Ruben Amorim’s sacking.

Rashford has scored 10 goals in 38 appearances for the Spanish giants. His goals included the winning goal in the Champions League against Newcastle. The 28-year-old is part of an attacking line that also includes Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski, which means he has to accept a role on the bench at times.
But Flick was full of praise for his attitude, saying in December: “It’s the perfect mentality. I’m very happy to have him. When he’s on the bench, he shows that we’re a good, deep team. What I can say is that he’s a completely professional player. He had to adapt a bit at first, but now he’s at his best level.”
Flick has proven to be a big hit at Barcelona, with Laporta saying: “He’s very happy here, so we’ll probably announce the deal soon.” The president has backed the former Bayern Munich manager to remain in office until his term expires in 2031.
“It will show the consistency that we are winning,” Laporta said. “I think there is a possibility that he will be at Barça for another five years. He is young, full of energy and is happy at Barça.”
