Jadon Sancho is nearing the end of his loan spell with Aston Villa and looks set to become a free agent when his contract with Manchester United expires in June.
Borussia Dortmund want to re-sign Jadon Sancho on a free transfer from Manchester United. Sancho, 25, is out of contract with United this summer and is unlikely to be offered a new contract.
The 23-time England international is currently on loan at Aston Villa and will be away from Old Trafford for the third time since joining the Red Devils for £73 million in 2021. Sancho’s move to Villa was on a dry loan and did not include an option to buy.
Villa manager Unai Emery recently hinted that the forward would stay, but Dortmund are circling. The newspaper reported that the Dortmund manager changed his mind and approved Sancho’s transfer after choosing not to target the winger last summer as manager Niko Kovac insisted on playing in a 3-4-2-1 formation.
However, the former Dortmund star will need to take a significant pay cut from his £300,000-a-week wage at United to secure a return to Signal Iduna Park. Sancho made a name for himself at the Bundesliga club and was signed by Manchester City in 2017.

Kovac’s side are saving cash ahead of the summer transfer window after deciding to let the contracts of Julian Brandt, Niklas Süle and Salih Özkan expire. Dortmund will therefore be able to save around £21m in annual wages and are optimistic they can convince Sancho, who is free to sign a pre-contract with a foreign club.
The 25-year-old spent half of the season back at Dortmund in 2024 after being abandoned by former United manager Erik ten Hag. Sancho helped the club reach the Champions League final, but his permanent transfer did not materialize.
The same thing happened last season when Sancho joined Chelsea on loan, with the Blues paying a £5m penalty to not sign him permanently. Villa signed him on transfer deadline day in September, but he has struggled to make an impact.

Sancho has played in 29 games in all competitions, scoring one goal and providing one assist. However, Emery sees potential in him.
Asked in February if he had considered signing Sancho permanently, Villa said: “I haven’t thought about it yet, but he’s a great player. Hopefully he can improve his quality in our system and help us the way he’s doing.”
“He will need another contract and maybe he can sign here. If he plays his best football, we will want him. But it is also possible that other teams will be interested in him.”
