Chelsea’s leaders have a difficult choice to make when deciding the future of manager Liam Rosenior. The former Strasbourg manager was appointed as Enzo Maresca’s successor earlier this year, but questions are now being asked. His business performance has not been as good as expected, and his unconventional approach to management has raised quite a few eyebrows.

Rosseniol is reported to have refused to wear gloves at the training ground so that Chelsea players could better hear the applause, and is also said to have hosted a Lego building contest. Those rumors, along with the Blues’ bizarre pre-match huddles that quickly turned into a farce, did little to boost Rosenior’s credibility as a serious manager capable of leading one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

It would be more acceptable if these unusual methods consistently led to strong results, but this is not yet the case.

The former Hull City defender has won 10 of his 18 games since taking charge of Chelsea, but his performances leave much to be desired.

They were taken to extra time in the FA Cup earlier this month by Wrexham, who are a non-league club until 2022. That performance was followed by three consecutive defeats, including two defeats by PSG in the Champions League.

Both matches in the round of 16 played out like men against men. The reigning European champions are far ahead of their English rivals, highlighting the current division in class between Chelsea and the type of team they aspire to be.

The recent devastation has caused frustration among supporters, with at least one fan group planning protests against ownership in the near future.

If Chelsea fail to qualify for the Champions League, the owners will likely make Rosenija a player in the autumn. So, just weeks after signing a luxurious six-and-a-half-year deal, he faces an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea aren’t exactly known for giving their managers time, and the powers that be will no doubt be unhappy with the way things have turned out, especially given their heavy defeat to PSG in two games.

Now it’s time for Todd Boley, Behada Egbari, Paul Winstanley and others to make important decisions. They could stick with Rosenior or twist again in hopes of sparking a resurgence in the club’s fortunes.

Whatever happens will decide Chelsea’s fate next season and how they finish this season.

A slow start to the 2026/27 season also means the Blues will be looking to appoint yet another manager, at which point they will catch up with their rivals at the top of the Premier League.

Therefore, if they are not truly convinced that Mr. Rosenior is qualified for the job, they may decide to fire Mr. Rosenior now rather than wait.

However, sacking the 41-year-old is likely to cost Chelsea millions of pounds in severance packages, given his unusually long contract.

As a result, they find themselves in an unenviable situation, but if the west Londoners are serious about making it into the first team again, they will need to address the situation one way or another.
