Michael Carrick has praised Bruno Fernandes for breaking David Beckham’s record in Manchester United’s decisive win over Aston Villa.
‘Captain Fantastic’ Fernandes set up two of United’s three goals in the 3-1 win at Old Trafford. The win cemented United’s position in third place and took a big step towards qualifying for the Champions League.
And in the process, Fernandes reached 100 assists in all competitions in the Premier League, surpassing Beckham’s record of 15 in a single season for United in 2000. Fernandes’ future remains uncertain, with the Portugal star admitting he will wait until the summer to make his next move.
However, Carrick said Fernandes remains valuable to the team: “We’re happy to have him. He’s a player we don’t want to lose.”

“He has long shown how influential he is in the big moments. He is always there.
“You can always count on him to be there. That’s a really great trait. He’s been through some ups and downs here, but it’s never gotten the better of him. He’s there to make a difference.”
Fernandes said of his milestone: “I’m more satisfied because I was able to contribute for my teammates, which is even better. It’s very good to give joy to other players. I’m very happy to help them score and be happy. This is a big achievement for me.”

Villa lost their third league game due to this spin, and manager Unai Emery said: “We could have dominated more. We lost in the second half.”
“In the last two months we have struggled even more. We competed, but United played a very intelligent game. But we can be better. It’s a bad result for us now, but we have to prepare for the next challenge.”
