Steven Gerrard has named his favorite team in the Premier League after his boyhood club Liverpool.
“To be honest, I’m surprised at how welcome I’ve been here,” Gerrard joked.
“It’s unfamiliar territory for me, but obviously I’ve played against great teams and great players here at Anfield over the years.”
When Newcastle arrived to play against Liverpool on January 31st, Gerrard said: “In fact, it’s very fitting that we’re in the Newcastle dressing room, because if you want anyone to win the league other than Liverpool, it’s going to be Newcastle.”
“They’re the number two team in the Premier League for me. I’ve never said that (before) but, well, it’s living for you.”
Newcastle last finished top of the table in 1927, but the club continued to challenge for the Premier League title in the 1990s and 2000s when Kevin Keegan and Sir Bobby Robson were in charge.

While still in the away dressing room, Gerrard was also asked which opposition players he would have liked to have in his team.
“Oh, there were a lot,” Gerrard said. “I have a long list for you, but obviously the two would be (Cristiano) Ronaldo and, you know, (Lionel) Messi.
“We’ve got players who have played against a lot of world-class players, like Alan Shearer, Roy Keane, Patrick Vieira, Thierry Henry. Xavi, Busquets, how much time do you have? I’ll be here all day.”
Gerrard visited his home dressing room, where he has shared many big names during his long Liverpool career, before heading to the Kop, where he watched the team as a child.
“My first experience at Anfield was in this part of the stadium,” Gerrard said. “Noise, passion, emotion and hustle captivated me from a really young age.
“I became a Liverpool fan because of my father and brother, but when you go and experience it for yourself, this place, especially the Kop, captivates you.
“And being able to follow my dream and be a player here and win games and score important goals in front of the Kop at Anfield obviously shaped my life.”
