Max Dauman became the youngest ever goalscorer in Premier League history on Saturday after scoring in stoppage time in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Everton.
Mikel Arteta has revealed the message he sent to Max Dorman and his substitutes before the Arsenal wondermaker made history against Everton. The Gunners won 2-0 in a delayed game in north London, increasing their lead over Premier League leaders Manchester City to 10 points.
Substitute Victor Gokeres broke the deadlock in the 89th minute, and Dauman chased the lead in stoppage time. The 16-year-old fended off a number of challenges from Everton players, then pounced on Jordan Pickford’s late corner for the Toffees and scored with an open get.
Dauman, the youngest scorer in Premier League history, came on in the 74th minute and his attacking intentions were clear. The midfielder must have listened to his manager, as Arteta was asked in the post-match press conference what he said to the substitutes.
“Now do your thing and win the game,” replied the Arsenal manager. “When something special has to happen, it’s the same for Victor and (Gabriel) Martinelli.”

In an interview with Sky Sports, Arteta elaborated on his message, saying: “That’s all there is at the moment. Like Gabi, a lot of the players that have come in, the finishers have had a noticeable impact on the season.”
“Everyone is important, everyone is a part of the team, and certainly there are moments where you have to put up with all the domination and a lot of short situations when you can’t score.
“The anxiety is high. You have to stay calm and have that relentless desire to win games and make things happen. And that’s exactly what the team experienced today.”

The Gunners manager said of Dowman’s goal: “It was a great moment, especially the way the goal was set up and we had about 10-15 seconds to really enjoy it.
“We knew the goal was coming. It was magical when the whole bench and all the players jumped into the crowd together. It was a great day.”
Daumann will be hoping to start in Arsenal’s next game, when they host Bayer Leverkusen in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16. The Gunners drew 1-1 in Germany on Wednesday thanks to Kai Havertz’s late penalty.
