Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly preparing for a new manager as doubts continue over Igor Tudor’s future. Tudor only joined Spurs last month on a contract until the end of the season, but has lost all four games since joining.
The latest setback was a 5-2 loss to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last-16 first leg earlier this week, but Tottenham will now gear up to face Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend.
Tudor’s position has been the focus of widespread speculation in recent weeks, and that speculation has intensified following Atlético’s defeat. Now, a new development has emerged regarding the 47-year-old’s future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Athletic report that Tottenham are considering alternatives as they draw up plans should they choose to part ways with Tudor after this weekend’s game against Liverpool.
The report suggests that Tottenham are “actively” evaluating several potential candidates to replace Tudor in the Spurs dugout if changes are implemented after the weekend.
Furthermore, it has been suggested that it remains unclear whether Tottenham will seek to appoint another caretaker manager or seek a permanent candidate.
A number of candidates have been linked with the possibility of taking over as Tottenham manager if Tudor leaves the club, including former Everton and Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche.
Dyche was in charge of Forest until he left the City Ground last month and is now rumored to be moving to north London.
Speaking to the media before Tottenham’s game against Liverpool, Tudor explained how difficult the last few days have been for the Spurs caretaker manager following the defeat to Atletico.
“It’s definitely tough, not just because of the last game, but because of the era and the past,” Tudor said. “It’s not an easy situation, it’s not an easy moment, and it’s a big challenge to change the situation from the inside out.
“Like everything in life, you can choose how you look at the situation. So you can stop and cry or you can fight. You can be a victim or you can say I can make a difference. That’s the message I want to start and that’s what I conveyed to the players.
“Everyone is talking, everyone has an opinion, and life is always determined by how you look at it. The bottle is always half empty or half full.
“There is nothing here that is full, there is a lot of emptiness, but difficult moments do not last forever. They will pass and I believe that the players who take this as a challenge, as an opportunity, will have the courage to change the situation. After this period, they will become better people and better players.”
