Manchester United are reportedly prepared to sanction the departure of five players when the summer transfer window opens. The Red Devils are currently aiming to qualify for the Champions League after a season without any European competition. Michael Carrick took over as interim manager in January and has since won six of his eight games in charge, a series of results that have lifted the club to third place in the Premier League table.
United currently find themselves in a good position to secure Champions League football, especially if England earn five spots based on this term’s UEFA coefficient. New information has emerged regarding the intentions of Old Trafford’s decision-makers in the summer transfer window, regardless of their final position in this season’s Premier League.
According to The Sun, five players could leave United during the summer as the club looks to raise money towards the £422m remaining in transfer obligations.
Mason Mount, Joshua Zirkzee, Rasmus Hjølund, Andre Onana and Manuel Ugarte could leave United permanently this summer, according to reports.
Hjylund and Onana are currently spending the season on loan elsewhere from United and look set to complete a permanent move from the Red Devils in the summer.
United have sent Hojlund to Napoli on loan with an obligation to buy, with the Italian club’s sporting director Giovanni Manna confirming the striker will be permanently acquired.
“There is no doubt about it. Rasmus Hjølund will remain here. If Napoli qualify for the Champions League, we are obliged to sign him from Man United, but despite this situation he is in our plans,” Mana said.
Onana is currently on loan at Trabzonspor, but uncertainty remains as to whether the Turkish team will complete the goalkeeper’s permanent transfer.
Trabzonspor vice-chairman Zeiyat Kavkas provided an update on Onana’s prospects earlier this month.

“Our president honestly reported to the community in line with the realities of Trabzonspor, as the acquisition price of Andre Onana from Manchester United is in the range of 45-50 million euros,” Kavkas told Gnebacus.
“I don’t think this information has influenced Onana at all, because his thinking is that he would like to continue working for a club in Europe, if not in England.”
“His family thinks the same way. The president also wanted to explain the reality of Trabzonspor. But when the situation changes, the situation changes.”
Zirksee has struggled to find consistent minutes at United since Ruben Amorim took over as head coach in November 2024, and that pattern has continued even after Carrick took over as interim manager.
Mount has been given consistent playing time for United this season, but has missed the last six Premier League games through injury.
Ugarte, by contrast, has started only seven top-flight games for United this term, and his long-term prospects remain uncertain.
