Like many Premier League clubs, Liverpool’s owners are wealthy enough to rank near the top of annual wealth rankings. But that’s just one side of the picture, with two people within the Reds’ ownership structure having added a combined £225m to their personal wealth over the past 12 months.
The club has been operating under the ownership of Fenway Sports Group since 2010, with the American entity overseeing two Premier League titles and a Champions League victory over the past decade and a half. Notable minority investors have also joined during this period, most importantly NBA legend LeBron James.
The annual Forbes Billionaires List provides a glimpse of the wealthiest individuals on the planet. Unsurprisingly, that list includes several names that those in the football world will recognize, including three with links to Liverpool.
This year, the club will be represented by FSG’s John W. Henry and Tom Warner, as well as minority investor James.
Henry’s wealth increased by £150m to £4.2bn.
James’ total has increased by £75m to £1bn, while Werner’s total has remained flat at £1.5bn. Together, this amounts to £7 billion.

“James has earned more than $500 million in pre-tax salary from stints with the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and his current team, the Los Angeles Lakers,” says Forbes’ profile of the 41-year-old NBA icon.
“He also earned more than $1 billion (pre-tax) off the court from business ventures and sponsorship deals with PepsiCo, Nike, Beats by Dre and others, according to Forbes estimates.”

In May last year, Liverpool were valued at a whopping £4.2bn. At that point the owners were approaching their 15th year of ownership and released a statement commemorating the landmark later that year.
A lengthy statement read in part: “Liverpool Football Club means so much to so many people and we will always remember that.”
“This club is part of the fabric of the city and much more than it. It brings together generations and communities in a truly special way. It’s a privilege to be part of that story, and it comes with responsibilities that we can never take for granted.”
“Today is a day to look back with gratitude, but it is also a day to remember that our work is not done yet. There is still so much ahead of us, so much to accomplish, so much to win, so many memories to make together.
“And on behalf of everyone at Fenway Sports Group, I’d like to thank all of our supporters. Thank you for making us feel welcome, for believing in this team through thick and thin, for telling us when we weren’t able to, and for showing the world what it truly means to be part of Liverpool Football Club. You never walk alone.”
