Kai Rooney is one of the most talked about young prospects in English football today. At just 11 years old, he followed his iconic father Wayne into Manchester United’s academy system. With Wayne holding United’s all-time goalscorer record and Kai operating as an attacker, the 16-year-old feels comparisons are inevitable, and supporters have closely tracked his development since 2020.
Despite this spotlight, he has managed to shine through his development through United’s youth organization. Rooney, who was initially used as a center forward but now plays on the right, made his debut at Old Trafford in January when he represented the Under-18s in the FA Youth Cup.
The youngster has already achieved numerous milestones in his fledgling career, both on and off the pitch. Express Sport looks at the various contracts the teenager has secured as one of Britain’s most commercially attractive young athletes.
Rooney has propelled his developing career forward by putting pen to paper with Triple S Sports Management. The firm previously looked after his father, a former England captain, during his playing days.
The company, run by the United legend’s long-time representative Paul Stretford, has added Rooney to its roster. An Instagram announcement confirmed the teenager’s signing, saying: “Happy to announce the signing of @kairooney.10 and Triple S Sports!”
“We are excited to start working with the Manchester United forward as he continues his journey in the game. He has a bright future ahead of him.”
The left-footed winger has signed a contract with Puma in 2022. The sportswear giant scouted him at just 12 years old after scoring an astonishing 56 goals.

Kai revealed in an Instagram post that he has since been wearing Puma shoes and apparel, writing: “Awesome to sign with @puma. See nothing but great things.”
Wayne recently revealed that his son does not receive any special treatment within United’s academy, explaining that club rules prohibit Kai from wearing Puma boots at Under-16 level.
Wayne told The Smith Brothers: Not a Podcast: “He’s obviously at Puma, but what I really like about him when he plays for the Manchester United Under-16s is that he doesn’t get to wear Puma boots.
“The whole academy has to wear the same boots, which I think is really good because there are people in the area who can’t afford certain boots. But he’s played a few times for the U18s and then he can wear the Puma boots. To be fair to him, he’s done well.”
Manchester United’s new contract ‘offer’
In February, Kai Rooney denied rumors that he had been offered a lucrative new contract by United. Some reports suggest that Rooney, who turns 17 in November, will be offered an initial one-year scholarship before moving onto a three-year professional contract worth around £50,000 a week, with an annual signing bonus.
The report suggested that the Rooney family had accepted the offer, and many other media outlets followed suit. However, this was quickly debunked on social media by the young player himself.
He posted on his Instagram story, “Don’t listen to the email (3 smiling face emojis).”
