Harry Redknapp has admitted he believes a return to Tottenham is unlikely even if the club decide to sack Igor Tudor. The 78-year-old former Spurs manager had been touted as making a remarkable return to north London following Thomas Frank’s departure last month.

Instead, Tottenham opted to appoint former Juventus and Marseille manager Tudor as head coach until the end of the season. However, Tudor made a disastrous start to his time at Spurs, losing all four of his opening games in all competitions.

Tudor’s tenure began with a 4-1 home defeat to Arsenal in the North London derby, and Spurs have struggled since then, losing to Fulham and Crystal Palace in the Premier League and suffering a 5-2 defeat at the hands of dominant Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last 16 on Tuesday.

Spurs are determined to hang in there with Tudor ahead of Sunday’s Premier League game against Liverpool, but speculation over the Croatian’s future has intensified dramatically, with some supporters and former players calling for his sacking after just a month in charge.

Redknapp’s name is again in the discussion, with former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara backing the experienced manager to replace Tudor and secure the club’s Premier League status. But he dismissed suggestions of a sensational return to Spurs on Wednesday.

Speaking to the Press Association at the Cheltenham Festival, Redknapp said: “I’ve been asked a few times if I’m going back to Spurs, but probably not, right? Would I go back? Of course I would, but I don’t really think it’s going to happen.”

He added: “They’re trying their best but it’s going to be tough. I’m watching their game and Nottingham Forest are playing well and West Ham are playing very well. It’s going to be tough for Tottenham. “My only concern at the moment is that Jukebox Man (his horse) will be in the Gold Cup. I have nothing to do with Spurs anymore.”

“They haven’t been in touch at all. I hope Spurs stay well and I hope West Ham stay well.”

Heading into this weekend’s Premier League fixtures, Tottenham are 16th in the table, one point ahead of 17th-placed Nottingham Forest and 18th-placed West Ham, although the latter are currently in the final drop zone. There are genuine concerns that Spurs could face relegation to the Championship for the first time in 49 years, and since Tudor’s appointment, several team members have reportedly deemed Tudor’s approach “disrespectful”.

This became clear after Tuesday’s defeat to Atlético, when Tudor opted to send off Antonin Kinski after a disastrous 16 minutes in which he conceded three goals from three errors. Kinski was replaced by Vicario soon after, but Tudor’s efforts to maintain discipline seemed to have failed, leading some to believe that this has left the squad disillusioned and questioning his authority.

Some believe Tudor has been too pushy since arriving at Tottenham and has appeared “disrespectful” and “borderline mockery” during his first month in office.
