Arsenal’s star-studded squad stands to win multiple honours, but quality has meant Miles Lewis-Skelly’s minutes have dwindled.
Arsenal youngster Miles Lewis-Skelly made his breakthrough last season but has fallen down the table this season and his situation could worsen due to the club’s transfer plans.
The teenager made 39 appearances in all competitions last season, proving himself in defense and midfield, with his standout moment coming when he scored against Manchester City at the Emirates.
Lewis-Skelly has had a solitary start in the Premier League this year as Mikel Arteta preferred other options. He has made 13 substitute appearances so far, but has fallen significantly in the standings.
Arsenal’s decision to sign Piero Hincapie on loan in the summer has further intensified competition for Arsenal’s academy graduate. And football.london understands the move will be permanent. Hincapie has moved ahead of Lewis Skelly and a young English player will need to take him if he is to stay long-term.
Before that, he also needs to send Riccardo Calafioli, who will be considered above him in the pecking order. Even the path into midfield seems to be a mixed bag, with the 19-year-old fancied having a number of better performers ahead of him.

Declan Rice, Mikel Merino, Martin Zvimendi and even Kai Havertz can all play in the middle of the pitch. Arsenal are also thought to be considering signing a midfielder this summer, which would make them even more available than Louis Skelly.
The timing of the situation is not favorable for the player, who had hoped to progress as an England international. He had previously been named by manager Thomas Tuchel, but although he was left out of the squad in November with the German claiming that the Arsenal teenager’s selection was unjustified given his lack of playing time, the reality remains.
“Miles is a very good team-mate and played for us in the final World Cup qualifying camp in Riga. So did Ruben Loftus-Cheek, so did Morgan Gibbs-White. But as I said last time, there are elements to it, it’s a matter of competition and performance, and the door is always open for players who perform at a high level on a regular basis.”
Arsenal’s transfer activity in recent years has allowed them to assemble a squad that is considered one of the best teams in Europe. Their depth has proven to be a huge asset for Arteta, but it has meant leaving some players on the outside. Fellow academy graduate Ethan Nwaneri was loaned out in January to ensure playing time.
