Arsenal are in the midst of a challenge for the Premier League title, but Mikel Arteta is already considering potential additions for next season and has set his sights on Manchester City.
Arsenal are keeping an eye on Newcastle defender Tino Livramento as the Gunners plan to make a major summer signing. The North London side are in the thick of the race for this year’s Premier League title.
They are currently the favorites to win the title, with a seven-point advantage over Manchester City. And while there is still work to do ahead of this season, it appears Arsenal have already begun considering the possibility of defending their title.
According to the Telegraph, Newcastle star Livramento is being considered as a potential summer signing. The 23-year-old has two years left on his contract at St James’ Park, but talks to extend his stay have been shelved for now.
Newcastle are keen to keep Livramento but are aware his value could be reduced due to his contractual situation. The defender shares the same international squad as Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and could put the Gunners in a position to rely on him if he decides to leave.

Newcastle are expected to ask around £60m if the defender leaves, but manager Eddie Howe has already admitted he wants to keep him.
Speaking earlier this season, amid reports of interest from Manchester City, he said: “Yes, I think it goes without saying[that we want Livramento to stay]. I think it’s frustrating for us that we’re always talking about players who are rumored to be leaving.”
“We want to go in a different direction. We want to strengthen our group. We want to make our team and squad stronger for the future, rather than lose our best players.”
Meanwhile, Libramento has also expressed his satisfaction with life in Newcastle. He said: “The aim was always to play in the Premier League as soon as possible. I got that experience straight away from Chelsea at Southampton. There were some tough times with injuries, but the club and the fans have been great to me.”
“I’m in a place I really love right now. I feel like I’m in a great place with Newcastle, the atmosphere, the supporters, the manager. I’m in a great place to learn and develop as a footballer.”
Ben White’s future at the club could be in doubt if Arsenal move to Livramento. The former Brighton man is already behind Julian Timber at right-back, but has just two years left on his contract ahead of next season.
