Liverpool star Florian Wirths has revealed how he is doing in the dressing room after a disappointing start to the season as he bids for silver.
Florian Wirths has revealed how a number of private meetings helped Liverpool’s dressing room get through the difficult period that led to the setback in their title bid earlier this season.
Liverpool started the 2025-26 season as favorites to retain the Premier League title after winning the title in Arne Slott’s first season. However, from the end of September to November, the Reds had a tough time losing six of their seven Premier League games, and their hopes of winning the title were quickly dashed.
Liverpool have regained their form, losing just three of their 23 matches since the start of the season. And Wirtz said the players took it upon themselves to blame each other when things didn’t go so well.
“There were a few meetings in the locker room with just us players,” Wirtz said during the Reds’ roundtable. “We had a difficult start and this club and this team are not used to not being able to win almost every game.

“And I think it was important for us as a group to believe that we are going through a process and we need to get better at it.
“As a team, we want to give something to the fans, but we’re not in a position to say, ‘We’re winning this, we’re winning that.’ So we’re focused on the game, but we know we still have something to play for.”
“Most of what I did was try to get my head strong and get it in the best position to bring the ball up the pitch, but that helped as well. It was really good to start scoring and from then on it was easier to find goals.”
“I can’t even explain why, because momentum is so important in soccer and once you score a goal, you can use it to your advantage.”
It has been difficult for Wertz to adapt to life in the Premier League after his £116m move from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer. It took him four months to score his first league goal, but the German star has gone from strength to strength since then, currently contributing 14 goals in all competitions.
Slott said after Wirtz broke his league duck in December. “The team knows how much he (Wirtz) did for us, creating chances and coming very close to scoring. He will continue to score more goals than we have. I think Florian did more than just score today.”
