Manchester United have already announced that Casemiro will leave the club this summer when his contract expires, with manager Nousser Mazraoui admitting he could leave the club.
Manchester United defender Nousser Mazraoui admitted it was a “sad day” when he found out Casemiro was leaving the club at the end of his contract.
The midfielder’s four-year spell at Old Trafford will end at the end of the season, although the club has the option to extend his contract by a further 12 months. United chose no, leaving Casemiro free to find a new club.
Casemiro moved to Manchester from Real Madrid in 2022 and was initially a huge success. He endured a slump the following year, but has regained his form and become a regular again as the Red Devils have soared up the table in recent weeks.
The 34-year-old arrived in England after a trophy-filled spell with Real Madrid, winning a number of Champions League titles, but his championship experience was seen as a big plus for a United side that had gone trophyless for years.
As a result, Mazraoui is disappointed to see Casemiro’s departure confirmed and insists the club needs to fill a big hole if it is to get the job done at the highest level.

“When I saw the announcement, I think it was like… it was a sad day. He brings experience like crazy. He knows what it’s like to win. He also knows what it’s like to win and the path to winning because he’s done it and lived it. So, yeah, we’re going to miss him a lot within the team, obviously off the field and on the pitch.”
The 34-year-old recently found the back of the net against Newcastle, making it his sixth Premier League goal of the season and surpassing his previous best score in Manchester. Although he is one goal short of his best total in all competitions, his departure will make the club even more keen to sign a new midfielder, who is at the top of their summer wish list.
It is unclear whether Michael Carrick was still in charge of United at the time, but he was full of praise for the Brazilian’s contribution.
“Well, I have to say Case has been great on and off the pitch since I came in,” he said recently. Experience can be a great thing when used correctly. And again, I think as time goes on, being a senior player here, you have a responsibility to set an example and help the younger players, help the rest of the players and pass on your experience in a positive way.
“He has been a top in many respects since I started and has been a lot of fun to work with. I look forward to continuing to work with him over the next few months.”
