Brighton suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Wednesday night, with Germany manager Fabian Hürzeler furious at the amount of time the Gunners spent en route to victory.
Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler was furious at Arsenal’s wasting time during their 1-0 win over the Amex and ripped into Arsenal. Bukayo Saka scored the goal to beat the Seagulls on Wednesday night.
The victory left Mikel Arteta’s side seven points clear at the top of the table, as Manchester City were unable to defeat Nottingham Forest. While there were celebrations in the Arsenal dressing room, the same cannot be said for Brighton.
Seagulls manager Haseler went on a rant in the post-match press conference, blaming Arsenal for wasting time and not playing football. Spanish goalkeeper David Raya required treatment multiple times, while winner Saka was also dragged along by Joel Veltman, who fell.
In his post-match speech, Hürzeler said, “Only one team tried to play football today. I have one question for you: Have you ever seen a goalkeeper fall three times in a Premier League game?”

“We should focus on our performance. Things like this are out of our control. I made my point before the game.
“We shouldn’t be focusing on these things… let’s talk about us. The Premier League needs to look at the rules. There were a lot of[periods of wasted time].”
And although the German player was not particularly happy with the tactics used by Arsenal on the south coast, he suggested the fault lay with those who made the rules. But he insisted he would not tell his players to waste time, subtly attacking Arteta.
Hürzeler added: “If they win the Premier League, no one will ask you what you want it to be. In the end, it’s a question of rules.”

“If the referees allow everything, they are playing by their own rules at the moment. It’s difficult to judge that. I never want to be a manager who tries to win in that way.”
Arsenal will be looking to take another important step towards another silver medal when they face Mansfield Town in the FA Cup fifth round this weekend. They will then face Germany’s Bayer Leverkusen in the last 16 of the Champions League.
Arsenal’s next Premier League game is at home to Everton in 10 days.
