Liverpool suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Wolves on Tuesday, ending their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League. Despite scoring, Mo Salah is expected to play an active role.
Former Liverpool star Steve Nicholl has named Mo Salah’s “terrible” decisions in the Reds’ embarrassing 2-1 defeat away to Wolves. Liverpool were stunned by the worst team in the Premier League, having won just two home games all season before Tuesday and remain at the bottom of the table.
Moments after Rodrygo Gomez gave Wolves the lead in the 78th minute, 33-year-old Salah equalized for Arne Slott’s side. However, Liverpool were unable to even get a draw in stoppage time as Andre Gomez’s shot deflected off Joe Gomez and into the back of the goal.
Wolves were clinical, scoring on half of their four attempts. In contrast, Liverpool had 19 shots on goal, with Salah’s goal coming rather by chance from a mistake by Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa.
Nicol, who won trophies at Anfield for 13 years, took aim at the Egyptian’s lack of involvement and highlighted a particularly poor decision that could have turned the tide at Molineux. The former Liverpool defender explained on ESPN, “It was a really bad decision in the final third.

“The Mo Salah match we showed in the highlights…he scored a goal but the goalkeeper should have saved it and he again didn’t contribute anything all night.
“I can sit here for 10 minutes and say all the things that went wrong, but (Tuesday) was a microcosm of what went wrong all season. Bad decision-making, our front three couldn’t do much, and defensively we conceded two goals on two shots.”
Salah, 33, was absent from Liverpool’s last game, a 5-2 win over West Ham on Saturday, but he failed to score in 10 Premier League games for the first time in his career. His woes have coincided with the Reds’ slump in their bid to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Nicol added: “My biggest concern is that it doesn’t matter who Liverpool play… they could lose.

“It’s another thing to talk about the big games of the season, but when a team is on the field regardless of the situation and you don’t know what you’re going to get, that’s not an acceptable decision at a club like Liverpool. Everyone playing against Liverpool knows they’re going to get a shot and they’re probably going to score.”
Slott echoed Nicol’s complaints about Liverpool’s futile attacks. “It’s the same old story,” lamented the Reds manager, whose team could slip to sixth place on Wednesday.
“Recently, we have been scoring a lot from set-pieces, so we’ve been winning a lot of points, but what hasn’t changed in the last five, six, seven games is that we’re struggling because it’s very difficult to score from the open-play chances that we create.”
