Manager Daniel Farke will need to keep Leeds in the top flight if he wants to negotiate a new contract at Elland Road after Tuesday’s home defeat to Sunderland.
Leeds United have postponed contract negotiations with Daniel Farke until the end of the season. And Farke may have to keep Leeds in the Premier League to sign a new contract at Elland Road.
The German will enter the final 12 months of his current contract in June. He wants to remain Leeds manager no matter what happens in the coming weeks and had previously expressed his desire to rule out the move.
But negotiations have been put on hold, with club leaders waiting to see if he will be able to keep Leeds in the Premier League. Leeds are six pints above the drop zone with nine games left.
However, Falke is under new pressure after suffering a crushing defeat with only two wins in 13 league games.
This includes Tuesday’s disastrous home defeat to Sunderland, which ended a great chance for Farke’s side to take a big step towards survival.

Leeds chairman Parag Malate and major investor Pete Lowy were seen in deep conversation at the Dakota Hotel after the club’s heavy home defeat to Sunderland.
And Loewy made it clear that Falke’s immediate future will not be decided until the result of the season is known.
He said: “We are not in the Premier League yet. We haven’t made any signings yet so we are not talking about that. Talking about signing Daniel now is not on the table. Not for him and not for us. Our goal is one.”
Farke is under contract until 2027 and will take charge of Leeds in 2023. In his second year in charge, he led Leeds to promotion to the top flight and won the Championship title with a goal difference of 100.
