Liverpool suffered a heartbreaking defeat to Wolves on Tuesday night, but Arne Slott warned he could lose his job at Anfield after failing in the Champions League.
Liverpool manager Arne Slott is said to be “100 percent sure he will be sacked” if he fails to lead his team to the Champions League.
The Reds suffered their ninth Premier League defeat on Tuesday night as bottom-placed Wolves scored in second-half stoppage time to seal a memorable win. This leaves the Merseysiders in fifth place, but Chelsea can move ahead of them with a win on Wednesday.
Liverpool started the season with five wins from five games and looked like a good enough bet to retain the Premier League title. But despite spending more than £400m in summer transfers and breaking British transfer records twice, the team had a campaign marred by inconsistency and have since fallen off a cliff.
High expectations were placed on the slot, but the defending champion could not only relinquish the title, but also miss out on Europe’s elite competition and the riches that come with it.
Jamie Carragher previously claimed he would be “dead” if the Dutchman failed to finish in the top five, but now he is adamant that Jamie O’Hara will be punished if he finishes below sixth.

The former Tottenham midfielder insists that last season’s success means nothing, as he said on Sky Sports: “He’s Arne Slott in big trouble, he needs to get some results, he needs to play Champions League football. If he doesn’t win the Champions League, he’ll be sacked 100 per cent. You can’t keep Arne Slott around just because he won the Premier League last season.”
“We need Champions League football. They spent a lot of money and bought top players. We are talking about five teams taking part in the Champions League and Liverpool is not one of them. Arne Slott cannot be the manager.”
Liverpool have won only four of the 11 league games they have played since the start of the year, and O’Hara does not think there is much room for improvement in his side, suggesting this is the level they are at now.
“I don’t know how he’s going to turn things around. That’s my concern,” he claimed. “I don’t see a team that suddenly starts playing really good football again. Will they ever be the team they were last season, when they were hard to beat? I can’t say they were a breathtaking team to watch, but they were a good team in a poor league. But I don’t think Arne Slott’s team is any better than it is now.”
