That’s the story of their entire campaign. Liverpool have lost five games in the Premier League this season due to stoppage-time goals, the most in a single season in the competition’s history.
Captain Virgil van Dijk looked frustrated after the loss to Wolves, calling his team’s performance “slow, predictable and sloppy”.
“It’s a strong league, it’s a tough league, there are big battles every three or four days. We need everyone to give their best and we need a big team.

“We need results. It says there’s still work to do, but it’s very clear and what we need to focus on.”
Last season, Liverpool won the Premier League title and became the best team in the country.
Their team was settled, scoring a lot of goals early on and their star players were all performing at a high level. That wasn’t the case this season.
The combination of Mohamed Salah’s rapid decline in form, the drama surrounding his future at the club, defensive injuries and new players taking time to settle in has created a season in flux for Arne Slott.
And this is reflected in the statistics regarding goals conceded in the final stages.
According to Opta, Liverpool have conceded seven points after the 89th minute this season, tied with Leeds United for the most in the league. Five of those goals resulted in a loss and the remaining two resulted in a draw.
In contrast, they conceded four points overall last season by conceding after the 89th minute, and conceded points in dramatic late draws to Newcastle United and Everton.

But on the other hand, Liverpool also benefited from a late goal.
This season, his goals from the 89th minute onwards have given him six points, the highest in the league. In comparison, they picked up just two points from the same scenario in their title-winning campaign.

Slott was praised for his team’s fighting spirit, which saved them a last-minute result earlier in the season, but now faces questions as to why Liverpool are struggling to see games through.
Last month, the Dutchman explained that this was his own problem, saying: “We conceded goals in the final stages of extra-time much more often than usual. Was it unlucky or was it our fault?”
“I think we tried a lot of different things. We made defensive changes and the ball went in, we kept playing with the same players and the ball went in.”

“You can pretty much say we haven’t been lucky. That’s definitely true. So are we unlucky or is this part of who we are? That’s something we’ll only find out in the next three to four months.”
Liverpool still have a lot to play for this season as they will be playing on three fronts. They sit fifth in the Premier League standings, progressing to the fifth round of the Emirates FA Cup and will face Galatasaray in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League.
However, a more controlled finish could improve the outcome of the remaining matches and the heart rate of Liverpool fans.
