Marcus Rashford was previously on the radar of PSG with the Parisians preparing to make a £100m bid, but it has now emerged that he could make a permanent move to Barcelona this summer for less than £30m.
Marcus Rashford is on the verge of a move to Barcelona, who are prepared to pay a fee to turn his loan move into a permanent one, but it’s more than £70m less than Manchester United once asked.
The Englishman moved to Spain in the summer on a loan deal that included a £26 million transfer fee, in case the Catalans wanted to keep him long-term. According to reports, they are willing to pay a sum to acquire him permanently.
Rashford has been a United member since he was a boy and has endured peaks and lows during his career at Old Trafford. His days at the club looked bleak when manager Ruben Amorim was in charge, but the club have no plans to bring him back into the squad following his sacking.
However, according to Sport, the £26m Barcelona are prepared to pay is far less than the £100m-plus price tag that Thomas Tuchel was willing to shell out when he was determined to sign Rashford when he was manager of PSG.
Back in 2020, the German was in charge in Paris and watched as Rashford showed nerves of steel to score a stoppage-time penalty to knock Paris Saint-Germain out of the Champions League knockout stages at the Parc des Princes.

The Independent reported at the time that Tuchel had made signing the forward his top priority ahead of the new season. United would only accept a figure in excess of £100m and the PSG manager was working hard to convince the higher-ups that Rashford was worth the money. During the discussion, the current England manager claimed that people “didn’t understand how good a player Rashford actually was”.
Comparisons have been drawn with Kylian Mbappé, and some in the French capital have seen him as the perfect foil or long-term replacement for the World Cup winner, with Rashford constantly linked with a move to Real Madrid, but a move may end up happening.

Although PSG were never able to sign a player, Rashford was a huge success, scoring 21 goals that season. He had better reach that total two years later, when he achieved the only 30 goals of his career under Erik ten Hag.
During this prolific year, Rashford has been particularly quiet with either team, failing to even hit double digits in three of the five seasons after PSG expressed interest. United may be accepting his departure having built a front line that does not plan for Rashford’s return, but they will have to accept a huge loss for the fee they could have earned.
