All three goals in Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Chelsea came from set pieces, with the team looking to take advantage of dead ball situations more than ever in the Premier League.
Chelsea manager Liam Rossenia has called for a review of set-pieces, saying they currently give an “unfair advantage” to “certain teams”. Rosenior’s team narrowly lost 2-1 away to league leaders Arsenal on Sunday, but both conceded goals from corner kicks.
However, Chelsea also scored a goal from a set-piece, with Reece James’ corner corner taken in by Arsenal defender Piero Hincapie. This match showed how important dead ball situations have become in the Premier League.
Arsenal’s second goal of the day was scored by Julian Timber, his 16th goal from a corner kick this season. It was later revealed that Arsenal manager Nicolas Jobar has a bonus included in his contract for every goal he scores from a set piece.
However, some described Sunday’s game as “ugly” due to the grappling in the corners. Rosenior weighed in ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Aston Villa after the Blues have conceded the most chances from corners in Europe’s top five leagues this season.

“I think that’s the beauty of football,” Rosenior said in a press conference. “You can play football in so many different ways. For me there is no right or wrong way to play football.
“When we scored a goal from a corner yesterday, it was deflected, but I don’t think the fans cared what happened to the goal. I don’t think the Arsenal fans cared what happened to their goal either. The game is about winning.”
“What I would like to say is about corner kicks, I think there needs to be a review at the end of the season in terms of how the teams are influencing the goalkeeper, how they are holding up against set-piece defending, because I think it gives certain teams an unfair advantage.”

Mikel Arteta defended his team’s tactics after the match. “It’s not ugly. You have to play the game you can play. Against Chelsea, I know exactly the game I’m playing,” Arteta said.
“For me, this is a beautiful game to play, because the quality is very high and we have to adapt very much to their actions. And they have to do the same against us, so the difference is very, very small and the final duel decides this kind of match.”
