Liverpool spent big last summer as the Reds tried to defend their Premier League title, but Arne Slott has admitted he is willing to commit to more new signings for next term.

Manager Arne Slott has confirmed that Liverpool’s transfer plans will remain unchanged despite the Reds’ newfound set-piece threat.

The Reds have endured a disappointing title defense this season, being overtaken by clubs better at set pieces. Liverpool manager Slott has already admitted that Premier League games were “not fun to watch”.

However, the Reds have utilized their unique set-piece ability to score more goals than any other top team since the start of the year.

Ahead of this week’s clash with bottom-of-the-table Wolves, Slott continues to stick to his approach in the transfer market despite taking a more physical approach within the division.

“As I’ve said many times, we have a unique model here. Our model is to sign young players,” Slott said.

“It’s normal for young players to have to adapt for the Premier League more than when you sign a 27-year-old player who has already played in the Premier League and is already at the end of his fitness (development).

“But that’s why we have our model, because we believe that players can develop. This club has shown that if we use our model, we can achieve things, just like we did five years ago and last season.”

Liverpool have already begun their summer recruitment by announcing the signing of 20-year-old French centre-back Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes in a £60m deal at the end of the season.

And Slott added: “Rebuilds take time, transitions take time. That’s what we did last summer. But we didn’t expect the league to be like this season. We couldn’t have known this because last season wasn’t as extreme as this season.”

“That often happens. When a team is successful in a certain area, it will be imitated. 10 to 15 years ago, a lot of people wanted to play like Barcelona.

“I hope that the players who win the World Cup don’t win it for other reasons, rather than having a great style of play and scoring goals one after another in open play.

“(The Premier League) is strong in the sense that every ball is kicked forward, and that was against us especially at the beginning of the season. In my opinion, that has settled down a bit. For the first 10 games or so it was a direct style of long ball after long ball, long ball after long ball.”
