Mohamed Salah has a contract with Liverpool until June 2027, but his reduced production, huge wages and continued links with Saudi Arabia mean an early exit is likely.
Mohamed Salah is reportedly “increasingly likely” to leave Liverpool in the summer transfer window, despite making arrangements with Arne Slott. Salah returned to the Liverpool squad after a huge row with his manager in December, but his performances and contract situation mean he is likely to leave this summer.
A lot of water has flowed under the bridge since Salah said Slott had “thrown me under the bus” and that there was “no relationship” between them. They have since mended their relationship and Salah is once again a regular on Liverpool’s right flank.
However, the situation is not completely resolved, even though Salah’s contract with the Reds runs until June 2027. The Egyptian star has always been linked with a move from Saudi Arabia, with a move to MLS this summer also being discussed as a possibility.
Salah has seven goals and eight assists in 28 games in all competitions, far from his high standards, but he has failed to score in nine Premier League games. BBC Sport reports that his departure is “increasingly likely”, partly because Liverpool don’t want to lose him for nothing when his contract expires.

The 33-year-old is also the club’s highest-paid player, earning around £400,000 a week, but he is no longer achieving at a level that would make him untouchable. Saudi clubs Al Hilal, Al Qadisah and Neom have all expressed interest in signing Salah, with league sources saying in January that a move was “inevitable” given the circumstances.
Slott defended Salah’s decline in form at a press conference ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League game against West Ham. “He sets standards for himself and those standards are so high that people are immediately surprised the moment he doesn’t score a few games. So that’s probably just the biggest compliment he can get,” he said on Friday.
“We’re used to Mo scoring a lot of goals and that might be the biggest difference in his performance and game time at the moment, but we also know it’s happened before in my time.

“I don’t know exactly if it happened nine games in a row, but I’ve always had this question. Maybe he didn’t score in three games, or he didn’t score in five games, or I don’t know the exact number. But I also know that in the end he always starts scoring again.”
“And that’s the challenge he has now, the challenge we have now, is to get him back to scoring again, because he’s not our only attacker who isn’t producing as many goals as we’re used to at the moment.
“So not only is he getting the attention he deserves because of everything he’s done for the club, but also Ugo (Ekitike) and Kodi (Gakpo) haven’t scored as many goals as of late. So, again, that’s something we have to improve on as a team.”
