Andre Onana was loaned to Trabzonspor under Ruben Amorim at the start of the season, but still dreams of a potential return to Manchester United.
Andre Onana remains determined to fight for his place at Manchester United despite seeing flashes of brilliance as a substitute after being released on loan. Onana spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Trabzonspor, while Senne Ramens has impressed as United’s new No. 1 goalkeeper.
Lamence arrived from Royal Antwerp for £18m on transfer deadline day in September, with United subsequently deciding to loan Onana to Turkey. Onana will return to his parent club this summer, where he made 72 appearances, as Trabzonspor do not have the option of signing the Cameroon international on a permanent contract.
He has made 20 appearances for the Turkish side, but given Rammens’ form, his performances may be of little interest to United. The Belgian has started 21 consecutive games under Amorim, Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick and is a sure presence between the posts.
Ramence has kept five clean sheets for United so far and is part of an improved defense under Carrick. Altai Bindil is currently the No. 2 goalie behind Ramens, and veteran Tom Heaton is also part of the goalie group.

Onana was signed by former Ajax coach Erik ten Hag from Inter Milan for £44m three years ago and still has two years left on his contract with United. His friend and former Cameroon and Chelsea star Geremi says Onana still harbors hopes of turning things around at United.
“Listen, I know Andre very well and there were a lot of things that weren’t right during his time at United,” he told Telecom Asia. “It wasn’t just him, and believe me, with the addition of Michael Carrick, things are going in a positive direction for everyone, including him.
“He obviously has talent and that talent is rare. The next thing is for him to get back out there and fight for his spot. Andre has always excelled when faced with challenges. He thrives when given a fair chance to prove himself.”

Onana’s future will be decided in the summer, when big changes are coming at United. Club bosses are looking for a long-term successor to Amorim, and Carrick is being considered as one of the candidates.
Onana’s hopes could be dashed if Carrick wins the role permanently, and the interim manager is pleased with Lamence’s form. “For me as a goalkeeper, it’s about being trusted and trusted. Instead of creating chaos, I want them to clear it up and calm things down. I think that’s what Sene does,” he said after his man-of-the-match performance in the 1-0 win over Everton.
“He’s very quiet and reserved at times, but he’s got real steel about this. Stepping in is a big, big role for some guys. And other people talk about coping there and being comfortable in the environment. Sometimes it takes time, sometimes it doesn’t. But the way he’s doing it at the moment is that calmness, that calmness. I think that’s helping the people in front of him a lot.”
