Barcelona are reportedly set to begin talks with Manchester United over a permanent transfer for Marcus Rashford, but they are keen to change the terms of his transfer.
Barcelona are reportedly looking to negotiate a £26m buyout option for Marcus Rashford with Manchester United. The 28-year-old spent the 2025/26 season on loan in Spain, recovering his best form.
Rashford has scored 10 goals and provided 13 assists in eight Champions League games, including contributing nine goals. His performances in La Liga led to him being recalled to the England squad, with manager Thomas Tuchel expected to include him in his World Cup squad.
Barcelona have the option to secure the forward for up to £26 million, a clause agreed between the two clubs when the loan deal was finalized. However, according to multiple reports, his permanent move may not be so easy.
Reports in Spain earlier this year suggested Barça were reluctant to meet the agreed valuation and would seek to reduce the fee or take out another loan with a buyout obligation. It was then claimed that he would indeed trigger this clause and sign the United loanee to a permanent deal.

However, Sport reports that important talks took place on Monday between Barça sporting director Deco and Rashford’s agent Arturo Canales to lay the foundations for talks with United ahead of the summer. The newspaper claims that Deco’s goal is to reduce the €30 million buyout option agreed last summer, but Barça plan to sign Deco permanently this summer.
It is highly unlikely that United will reduce the fees it receives. Mirror Football reported how the club regret the deal that saw the academy graduate leave for just £26m.
United officials believe the England international’s value is now approaching £50m, and several other clubs are understood to be interested in signing him this summer. However, Rashford’s desire to secure a permanent move to Barcelona means he could use that to negotiate a lower price.

“I don’t think there’s anything like pressure here,” he told BBC Sport in December. “I just came here to play football. It’s been great. I feel welcomed and it feels like home. I’m just enjoying every step of the way.”
Barcelona and Rashford are currently competing for La Liga, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey. Hansi Flick’s side currently lead Real Madrid at the top of the table and finished in the top eight of the Champions League.
