Geoff Stelling joined TalkSPORT in 2023 as breakfast show presenter after leaving Sky Sports, returning to his previous role at Hartlepool United.
Geoff Stelling has returned to Hartlepool United as honorary chairman, less than a year after stepping down as honorary chairman in protest against the club’s ownership. Mr Stelling was furious with former owner Raj Singh and resigned from his role at his hometown club in May, but re-linked with Hartlepool following Landon Smith’s appointment in January.
Hartlepool was acquired by American property developer Smith earlier this year, nearly three years after it was first put up for sale by Singh. Former Sky Sports presenter Stelling was a vocal critic of Singh, saying he put supporters in an “unbearable position” when he resigned at the end of the 2024/25 season.
However, the 70-year-old has decided to return to the National League side alongside fellow club ambassador Savannah Marshall. The news comes a week after Stelling confirmed he would be taking an extended break from the breakfast show TalkSport.
“Hartlepool United has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember,” Stelling said. “Like all Poole players, I have supported the club through good times and bad, and to have the opportunity to officially represent Poole again is something I am extremely proud of.”

“We have had positive conversations with Landon and have been impressed with his approach. He has taken the time to listen and understand the club and is focused on getting things done right. There are no rushed commitments, just a clear determination to build in the right way.”
“I wouldn’t have come back in any capacity if I didn’t believe in what’s being done. If I can play any part in the recovery of the pool, I’ll do everything I can.”
Mr Stelling is best known for hosting Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports for 29 years. He has retired and found a new home at talkSPORT, where he will front the Breakfast Show alongside Ally McCoist and Alan Brazil from 2023.

Stelling’s passion for Hartlepool was a feature of his appearances on Soccer Saturday, and he returned to the team following the club’s purchase by Mr Smith, co-founder of Minnesota-based real estate company Tailwind Group.
“Over the past two months I have spent a lot of time listening to and meeting people associated with Hartlepool United, and it has become clear how important Geoff and Savannah are to this club and this city,” Smith said.
“When you meet people of their stature, sometimes reputation outweighs reality. The opposite was the case with Jeff and Savannah. I was very impressed. Their passion for Pools is genuine, their connection to the city is genuine and both can bring incredible value to the journey of this club.”
